The LOHAS Consumer in Asia

There is a new consumer in Asia and she is powerful…. through the choices that she makes in the supermarket, at the clothes store, online, she is buying products and services that are produced locally, sourced sustainably and have the environment in mind at every stage of the product lifecycle.

This consumer is the LOHAS consumer and they are between 11 and 20% of the urban population in Asia, and we believe that they are gathering strength daily.

The consumers are ready and waiting, but the response from the business community has been patchy at best, non-existent at worst. There are structural reasons that can explain why the traditional giants of consumerism have not responded as quickly as we might expect, and this is handing small business a golden opportunity to fill the demand gap that exists NOW….

Using data from extensive market studies as well as his own personal observations from travels throughout Asia, Adam Horler will uncover the secrets of the Asian LOHAS consumer and give some context to the problems facing Asia today from over-exploitation of resources and un” conscious consumption.”
